Plus!

Happy Birthday!^^

      Messenger Plus

1. 請開啟新檔案,設定透明、像素寬度為135高度為65;

Emotions at work         presented by Lynne Malcolm

Subject: All in Minds
broadcast on 8th July 2006 Listen on 8th July 2006

Normally we hiring people by value their ability of work or their talent, even though both of them are important, we may value the wrong skill. To take another look, we should discuss more on how not to communicate at work and how to make the employees doing work more effectively. As the balance between our jobs and home live, the rapidly changes on the technologies and work environment and jobs and our life satification could be threatened.

To have a positive job productions, we should know how to manage our emotions at works, cause that normally affect our working ability as well. Sometimes you see when a person given you information, they would firstly give you bad news than good news, that because if he tells good news first, you feel happy, but then the bad news make you even sad. People wouldn't really get a high work productions if that's the way how they going to work.

Mr. Peter Sullivan, works at the Australian business training and said that these days we demends more from our working lives. It now change gradually that people dont' expect the authority, churches, institutions like they used to do. People are more likely to be involved within the workplacement, and so the organization get their people on board, get to engage their people, because the way to lead people to produce more better results.

Emotion is a difficult one in the workplacement, because in a lot of ways there's no place for emotion in the workplace. However, you can't have thinking without emotion, it's been proven by neuroscience that if you take away emotion you take away the ability to make decisions. Emotion, as E- motion; motion means movement, and that is, emotion move us.     to be continued..

Personal Time Management   presented by Richard Aedy

subject: Live matters

broadcast on 3rd May 2005 listen on 3rd July 206

Since the early work of Halberg(1960), the existence of human "circadian rhythms" has been well-known to biologists and phychologists. Circadian rhthms dictate that there are certain times of the day when we are at our best both physically and psychologically. At its simplest, te majority of us feel most alive and creative in the mornings, while come the evenings we are fit only for collapsing with a good book or in front of the television. Others of us note that in the morning we take a great deal of time to get going physically and mentally, but by the evening are full of energy and bright ideas, while a very few of us feel most alert and vigorous in the late afternoon.

Irrespective of our personal rhythms, most of us have a productive period beteen 10 am and noon, when the stomach, pancreas, spleen and heart all appear to be in their most active phases. Conversely, the majority of us experience a low period in the hour or two after lunch (a time when people in some societies sensibly that a rest), as most of our energyis devoted to the process of digestion. The simple rules here are: don't waste too much prime time having a coffee break around 11 am when you should be doing some of your best work, and don't make he after-lunch perod even less productive by overloading your digestion. A short coffee or tea break is, in fact, best taken on arrival at the office, when it helps us start the day in a positive mood, rather than mid-morning when it interrupts the flow of our activities. Lunch is best taken early, when we are just beginning to feel hungry, and we are likely to eat less than if we leave it until later. "An early lunch also means that we can get back into our productive stride earlier in the afternoon."

Changes in one's attitude can also enhance personal time management. For example, the notion of productivity is eminently preferable to reaction. To proact means to anticipate events and be in a position to take appropriate action as soon as the right moment arrives. To react, on the other hand, means to have little anticipatioin and do something only when events force you to do so. Proactors tend to be the people who are always one step ahead of other people, who always seem to be in rthe right place at the right time, and who are always better informed than anyone else. Many of us like an easy life, and so we thend to be reactors. This means that we aren't alert to the challenges and opportunities coming our way, with the consequence tha tchallenges bother us or opportunities pass us by before we are even properly aware they're upon us. We can train ourselves in proaction by regularly taking the time to sit down and appraise the likely immediate futrue, just as we sit down and review the immediate past. Psychologiests recognize that we differ in the way in which we characteristically attribute responsibility for the various things that happen to us in life. One of the ways in which we do this is known as locus of control (Weiner, 1979), which refers to assigning responsibility. At its simplest, some individuals have a predominantly internal locus of control, attributing responsibility to outside causes, while with other individuals the locus of control is predominantly internal in which responsibility is attributed to oneself. However, the picture usually isn't as simple as this. Many people's locus of control is more likely to be specific to a particular situation, for example internal in certain areas, such as their social lives, and external in others, such as their working lives. Or, to take another example, they may attribute certain kinds of results to themselves, such as their successes, and certain kinds of results to other people, such as their failures. Obviously the best kind of locus of control is one that is realistic and able to attribute every effect to its appropriate cause, and this is particularly important when it comes to time management. Certainly, there are occasions when other people are more responsible for our time loss than we are, but for most of us, and for most of the time, the blame must fall fairly and squarely upon ourselves.

well...

Living expenses -- a guide for oversea students

Subject: International Studies

In the mid-1990s it is estimated that a student living alone will require on average A$12,000 in living expenses for each year of study. Of course these costs increase with time.
Upon arrival, students should ahve funds in excess of average to cover the cost of text books and establishment expenses such as rental bond payment and basic furniture items. The amount spent on food, recreationm, and entertainment expenses will vary according to requirements, budget, and location.

Those who are prepared to live in shared accommodation, whic may not be suitable for all, might manage on A$10,000 per year. It is preferable for overseas sutdents whose English is in need of practice to take advantage of live-in situations with native speakers whenever possible, Howeverm sharing with friends who are easy to communicate with is probably more sensible at first.

Owning and maintaining a motor vehicle is expensive in Australia. Insurance is compulsory and costly, and parking both on and off campus can be a problem requiring additional expense. It is not advisable for a student to own a car unless it is absolutely necessary. A reasonable second-hand car can cost in excess of A$4000.

Eudcational institution are almost always serviced by reliable public transport. The university and college campuses within the major cities are well served by public buses. In addition, the larger cities have extensive train system. For example, in sydmey, most colleges and university campuses are only 10 or 20 minutes from a rail station.

The summer vacation requires special financial planning. Expenses for this period must be carefully estimated and added to costs for the academic year in order to give a realistic total figure for the calender year. They are not included in the estimated A$10,000-A$12,000 previously quoted. University eating facilities, and some universtiy and college housing facilities, close during this time. As a general rule, international students should expect to spend at leat as much on monthly living expenses during the summer as they do during the academic year.

Under present immigration regulations, international students are allowed to work up to 20 hours during terms time and full-time during vacation. It is impossible for students to expect to earn sufficient funds working part time to pa for tuition fees and living costs. While some students are able to supplement their funds with moenty from part time and/or vacation work, such work is not always regular even when available, and this can contribute an anxiety and study problem. In general it si unrealistic to start a course with insufficient funds in the hope that "something will turn up". Student should be aware that vacation work has become more difficult to find over the last few years, but those interested can contact the Commonwearlth Employment Service or the Students' Union on campus.

Warm clothes are necessary in the southern States during winter months, as night temperatures can drop to less than 10 degrees Celsius. Students should bring as much clothing from home as possible , especially if funds are limited. Information on where to buy inexpensive clothes can be obtained from the International Student Centre of most college and universities.

Do not rush into buying expensive textbooks. It is advisable ot wait unitl your first lectures and tutorials and then ask academic staff which are the essential purchases. There is usually a second-hand bookshop on campus, and used texts are also advertised on faculty notice boards.

The Students' Union coordinates a number of outlets on the various university campuses that provide stationery items and other essential equipment at reasonable prices. Some courses require specialized equipment which can be quite costly, and it is wise to check any additional costs involved with the course of your choice. In general, those practically oriented courses tend to incur higher additional costs. Expenses for books, stationery, and equipment vary greatly, but you should allow approximately A$500-$1000 a year.

Most university campuses have banks and/or credit unions. The banks issue drafts, traveller's cheques or foreign currency notes, and accept telex or airmail transactions. In some colleges and universities the credit union is the institution's own credit union. In addition to normal banking and financial services, credit unions usually provide special services for international student.

Money may be deposited or withdrawn from branches of the credit unions and banks duriing business hours from Monday to Friday  or 24 hours a day from the many on-campus automactic teller machines. Business hours for financial institutions vary, but credit union are usually open from 9am to 5pm weekdays, and, generall, banks are open from 9:30 am to 4 pm (5pm on Thursday)

Some services are available on Saturday mornings in selected areas. While prices often compare favourably with overseas, because Australia is a large and exciting country it is very easy to overspend, especially if on a tight budget.

Changing our understanding of health

subject: Health

broadcast on 1st July 2006 Listen on 1st July 2006

The concept of health holds different meanings for different people and groups. These meanings of health have also changed over time. This change is no more evident than in Western society today, when notions of health and health promotion are being challenged and expanded in new ways.

For much of recent Western history, health has been viewd in the physical sense only. That is, good health has been connected to the smooth mechanical operation of the body, while ill health has been attributed to a breakdown in this machine. Health in this sense has been defined as the absence of disease or illnes and is seen medical terms. According to this view, creating health for people means providing medical care to treat or prevent disease and illness. During this period, there was an emphasis on providing clean water, omproved sanitation and housing.
